Ginbot 7- A day to remember
Berlin, Germany- This same day exactly four years back, eligible Ethiopian voters from all walks of life turned out into their polling stations in huge numbers ever witnessed in the country’s thousands of years of history. Their votes, however, were blatantly rigged by the government in power. Hundreds died, thousands ended up in the notorious jails following protests which were nothing but peaceful.
In memory of the day thousands of Ethiopians living in exile staged demonstrations in their host countries. Here in Germany hundreds showed up in Berlin before the US embassy and the Chancellor’s office protesting their support to the illegitimate tyrannical government of Ethiopia and called for the end of any kind of non-humanitarian assistance directed to the regime that violates its own constitution. They also said that the west should exert pressure on the government so that it meets its national and international obligations. Representative of the protesters handed over letters to the officials requesting the same. Pictures will be up soon.
